Basics
What is a FUE punch?
A FUE punch is the hollow, thin-walled cutting instrument used in follicular unit extraction (FUE) hair transplantation. It scores the skin around a follicular unit so the graft can be lifted from the donor area, and its diameter and working length are chosen to match the graft caliber and the follicle depth of the patient. The Garry Fue Punch is published in 25 sizes, Ø 0.7 to 0.9 mm in working lengths from 2.5 to 5.0 mm.

What is the Garry Fue Punch?
The Garry Fue Punch is Garry Medical's FUE extraction punch, crafted from Japanese Steel (Garry J-Steel) with a serrated cutting tip. It comes in 5 diameters (Ø 0.7, 0.75, 0.8, 0.85 and 0.9 mm) and 5 working lengths (2.5, 3.0, 3.5, 4.0 and 5.0 mm), 25 order codes from PCH-070-25 to PCH-090-50. Every punch is manufactured in Türkiye, inspected individually before it ships and supplied non-sterile in an autoclavable hard-shell case. All sizes are listed on the Fue Punch family page.

How does a FUE punch extract a follicular unit?
A FUE punch encircles one follicular unit and scores the skin around it to a set depth, so the unit, with the tissue around it, can be freed and lifted with fine forceps. The diameter decides how much tissue the punch encircles, and the working length is the stop that sets how deep the edge travels before the unit is freed. On the Garry Fue Punch both are fixed per order code, for example PCH-080-35 is Ø 0.8 mm with a 3.5 mm working length.

Is FUE a machine or a technique?
FUE (follicular unit extraction) is a technique, not a machine: follicular units are extracted one by one with a FUE punch, used in a manual holder or in a motorized handpiece. Its defining feature is unit-by-unit extraction, not the power source. The Garry Fue Punch is the extraction punch Garry makes for it, in 25 sizes from Ø 0.7 to 0.9 mm.

What is the difference between a FUE punch and a biopsy punch?
A FUE punch is a fine-diameter, thin-walled instrument designed to score around a single follicular unit so the graft can be lifted for transplantation, while a biopsy punch is a dermatology instrument, usually larger, used to remove a core of skin for examination. A biopsy punch is not designed for follicular unit extraction. The Garry Fue Punch is made for FUE, in diameters from Ø 0.7 to 0.9 mm and working lengths from 2.5 to 5.0 mm.

Who manufactures the Garry Fue Punch, and where?
The Garry Fue Punch is designed and manufactured by Garry Medical at its own production facility in Türkiye. Machining, finishing and inspection are carried out in-house, and the punches are supplied direct to clinics and distributors worldwide with no importer in between. The process is described on the Production page.

Is a FUE punch also used in DHI hair transplants?
Yes, a FUE punch is used in DHI as well, because DHI changes only the placement stage and still harvests grafts with a FUE punch. The implanter pen replaces premade channels and forceps placement, so the punch diameter and the implanter needle bore should be planned together. Garry supplies the Garry Fue Punch for extraction and the DHI Implanter Pen & Needle for placement.

Sizes and selection
What sizes does the Garry Fue Punch come in?
The Garry Fue Punch comes in 25 sizes: 5 diameters (Ø 0.7, 0.75, 0.8, 0.85 and 0.9 mm), each in 5 working lengths (2.5, 3.0, 3.5, 4.0 and 5.0 mm), and the published diameter is the inner diameter. Every combination has its own order code, from PCH-070-25 to PCH-090-50, and its own product page. The full size table is on the Fue Punch family page and in the online catalog.

How do I read a Garry Fue Punch order code such as PCH-080-35?
A Garry Fue Punch order code names the diameter and the working length: PCH-080-35 is a punch of Ø 0.8 mm with a 3.5 mm working length. The first number is the inner diameter in hundredths of a millimetre (070 = 0.7 mm, 075 = 0.75 mm) and the second is the working length in tenths (25 = 2.5 mm, 50 = 5.0 mm). Ordering by the same code lets a clinic reorder the same size and specification it used before.

What does working length mean on a FUE punch?
The working length of a FUE punch, such as the Garry Fue Punch, is how deep its cutting portion reaches: the stop that sets how far the edge travels before the follicular unit is freed. It is matched to follicle depth, which varies by patient and by donor region. The Garry Fue Punch comes in working lengths of 2.5, 3.0, 3.5, 4.0 and 5.0 mm, and the second number of the order code gives it (PCH-080-35 has a 3.5 mm working length).
Also asked as FUE punch working length meaning · What is punch depth?
Is the Garry Fue Punch diameter the inner or the outer diameter?
The Garry Fue Punch diameter (Ø) is the inner diameter, so Ø 0.80 mm × 3.5 mm means a 0.80 mm inner diameter and a 3.5 mm working length. Wall thickness, outer diameter and manufacturing tolerances are not published for each code. If your protocol needs them, ask through the contact page and we answer in writing.
Also asked as Punch ID or OD? · What is the wall thickness of the punch? · What is the diameter tolerance of the punch?
Which FUE punch size should I choose?
Choose the Garry Fue Punch diameter by graft caliber and the working length by follicle depth. Ø 0.7 and 0.75 mm suit fine calibers and single-hair units, Ø 0.8 mm is the middle of the range for mixed grafts, and Ø 0.85 and 0.9 mm suit fuller multi-hair units and coarse calibers. Final sizing depends on the surgeon and protocol; the printable Fue Punch Selection Chart sets diameters, typical use and order codes side by side, and if you send your typical graft mix with a quote request we suggest a starting set in writing.

Is there a FUE punch size chart I can print?
Yes, the Fue Punch Selection Chart is a printable quick reference that matches each Garry Fue Punch diameter to its typical graft use and order codes. It lists Ø 0.70-0.75 mm for fine single-hair units and hairline work, Ø 0.80 mm for mixed 1-3 hair units and Ø 0.85-0.90 mm for fuller multi-hair units and coarse calibers. The working length is chosen to suit follicle depth, and final sizing is protocol- and surgeon-dependent.

Should I use a 0.8 mm or a 0.9 mm FUE punch?
A 0.8 mm Garry Fue Punch is the middle of the range for mixed 1 to 3 hair units, while the 0.9 mm punch is the largest diameter in the line, typically reserved for multi-hair units and coarse donor calibers. Neither is right for every case: the usual rule is the smallest diameter that cleanly clears the graft in front of you, which is why most teams stock 2 or 3 neighbouring diameters and select per donor. Both come in all 5 working lengths, PCH-080-25 to PCH-080-50 and PCH-090-25 to PCH-090-50.
Also asked as 0.8 vs 0.9 punch · Is 0.9 mm too big for FUE? · 0.8 mm or 0.85 mm punch?
What is the most common FUE punch size?
Garry does not publish a most-used Garry Fue Punch size, because the right diameter follows the graft caliber in front of the surgeon. Ø 0.8 mm is the standard middle of the Garry range, typically chosen for mixed 1 to 3 hair units, and 3.5 mm is the standard middle of the working-length range. Most teams stock 2 or 3 neighbouring diameters around their protocol rather than a single size.

Which FUE punch size is used for single-hair grafts and the hairline?
For single-hair follicular units and hairline work, the Garry Fue Punch in Ø 0.7 or 0.75 mm is the typical choice. The Ø 0.7 mm punch is the finest diameter in the Garry line, and the Ø 0.75 mm punch sits between single-hair work and mixed units. Both come in 5 working lengths, order codes PCH-070-25 to PCH-075-50.

Which FUE punch size suits coarse, thick or curly hair?
For coarse calibers and fuller multi-hair units, the Garry Fue Punch in Ø 0.85 or 0.9 mm is the typical choice, and 0.9 mm is the largest diameter in the line. Serrated geometry is commonly chosen where exit angles are curly or acute, and the Garry Fue Punch has a serrated cutting tip in every size. For strongly curled or Afro-textured donor hair, send your case profile and we answer in writing which published size to start with.

Which FUE punch size is used for beard or body hair extraction?
Garry does not publish a separate beard or body-hair size for the Garry Fue Punch; extraction from any donor area is sized the same way, the diameter by graft caliber and the working length by follicle depth. The line runs from Ø 0.7 to 0.9 mm in 5 working lengths, 2.5 to 5.0 mm. Send your case profile through the contact page and we answer in writing which published size to start with.

Which working length should I choose for a FUE punch?
The Garry Fue Punch working length is chosen by follicle depth, because it is the stop that sets how deep the edge travels before the unit is freed. 2.5 mm is the shallowest stop in the line for the tightest depth control, 3.0 mm is shallow to standard, 3.5 mm is the standard middle, 4.0 mm is a deeper stop for longer follicular units, and 5.0 mm is the deepest stop, for deep-seated donor hair. Too short a length may not fully score the unit, while extra length adds no benefit.

Does Garry make 0.6 mm, 1.0 mm or custom-size FUE punches?
No, the Garry Fue Punch is published only in Ø 0.7 to 0.9 mm with working lengths of 2.5 to 5.0 mm, and Garry does not offer custom diameters, lengths or geometries. The finest published size is Ø 0.7 mm and the largest Ø 0.9 mm. For no-shave cases the Long Hair Fue Punch adds Ø 0.8, 0.85 and 0.9 mm with a 4.0 mm working length.

Which FUE punch sizes should a clinic keep in stock?
Most FUE teams stock 2 or 3 neighbouring punch diameters around their standard protocol and select per donor, for example the Garry Fue Punch in Ø 0.75, 0.8 and 0.85 mm. Real donor areas contain a range of calibers, and a ladder of diameters also keeps a fresh punch available mid-session. Send your typical graft mix with a quote request and we suggest a starting configuration in writing.

Material and design
What is the Garry Fue Punch made of?
The Garry Fue Punch is crafted from Japanese Steel (Garry J-Steel), machined, finished and individually inspected in Türkiye. The material is stated on every product page, in the Dimensions & Materials table of each size.
Also asked as What steel are Garry punches made of? · FUE punch material
What is Garry J-Steel, and what grade and hardness is it?
Garry J-Steel is the name Garry Medical gives to the Japanese steel from which the Garry Fue Punch, the Long Hair Fue Punch and the DHI implanter needles are crafted. Garry does not publish a steel grade, stainless classification, hardness figure or coating for it. If your purchasing or reprocessing team needs material details, ask through the contact page and we answer in writing.

What kind of cutting tip does the Garry Fue Punch have?
The Garry Fue Punch has a serrated cutting tip in every size; the specification row on each product page reads Edge: Serrated. The tip profile is checked against the technical drawing and inspected under magnification before release.
Also asked as Is the Garry punch sharp or serrated? · Garry punch edge type · Serrated FUE punch
What is a serrated FUE punch designed to do?
A serrated FUE punch carries fine teeth on its cutting rim, and the Garry Fue Punch has this serrated cutting tip in every size. In general, outer serration is designed to seat on the skin at first contact instead of skating, and internal serration is designed to separate tissue planes after the initial score rather than keep cutting. Surgeons commonly reach for serrated geometry when the problem is punch skating on entry or resistance in fibrous tissue, and how it behaves in your hands is judged on comparable sessions, so a small first order can be quoted on request.
Also asked as Why use a serrated punch? · Advantages of a serrated FUE punch
Does Garry also make sharp, blunt, trumpet or hybrid FUE punches?
No, the Garry Fue Punch is made in one geometry, with a serrated cutting tip in every size, and Garry does not offer sharp, blunt, trumpet or hybrid variants. With Garry the choice is the diameter and the working length, 25 order codes in all. For no-shave work there is a separate family, the Long Hair Fue Punch, designed for excision with the hair shaft intact.

Technique
Is manual or motorized FUE better?
Neither manual nor motorized FUE is better in general; they distribute the difficulty differently. Manual extraction gives direct tactile feedback and suits difficult or variable donors worked by feel, while motorized extraction gives a higher, more uniform pace on long sessions, and many experienced teams use both. Either way the punch itself is specified by diameter and working length, as set out in our manual vs motorized FUE guide.
Also asked as Manual vs motorized FUE · Is motorized FUE better than manual? · Hand punch or motor punch?
Does motorized FUE damage grafts with heat?
Frictional heat in motorized FUE is a managed variable, governed by speed settings, edge quality and operator technique, and it is a reason for discipline rather than a verdict on the method. Manual extraction runs at low rotational speeds, while motorized extraction manages heat through speed settings and technique. Edge quality is one of those factors, and the cutting edge of every Garry Fue Punch is examined under magnification for sharpness, uniformity and burrs before release.
Also asked as Heat in motorized FUE · Does a FUE motor overheat grafts?
What affects follicle transection during FUE extraction?
Follicle transection during FUE is influenced mainly by how well the punch diameter matches the graft caliber, how well the working length matches the follicle depth, how the punch is aligned with the hair's exit angle and the condition of the edge. Tumescence firms the skin and gives the punch a more consistent cutting plane. The Garry Fue Punch is offered in 5 diameters and 5 working lengths so both can be matched to the patient, and the edge of every punch is examined under magnification before release.

What is micro FUE, and do I need a special punch for it?
Micro FUE is a clinic name for standard FUE performed with fine-diameter punches, usually 0.9 mm and under, and it needs no separate device. The whole Garry Fue Punch line, Ø 0.7 to 0.9 mm, falls in that class, so a micro FUE protocol is ordered by diameter and working length. Our guide What Is Micro FUE? explains what the name changes at the punch.

Can the Garry Fue Punch be used for no-shave or long hair FUE?
For no-shave or long hair FUE, Garry makes a dedicated family, the Long Hair Fue Punch, alongside the standard Garry Fue Punch. It is designed for excision with the hair shaft still in the lumen and comes in Ø 0.8, 0.85 and 0.9 mm with a 4.0 mm working length, order codes LPCH-080-40 to LPCH-090-40. Many clinics offer no-shave for selected cases and standard FUE for the rest, with both punch types on the same tray.

What instruments does a clinic need to start FUE?
A clinic starting FUE needs a ladder of punch diameters, recipient-site blades with a matched holder (unless it places everything with DHI), placement forceps or implanter pens with needles, and a sterilization workflow to support them. Garry supplies the extraction, channel opening and implantation instruments: the Garry Fue Punch, the Long Hair Fue Punch, the Sapphire Blade and the DHI Implanter Pen & Needle. Sterilization and care
Is the Garry Fue Punch supplied sterile?
No, the Garry Fue Punch is supplied non-sterile and must be cleaned and steam-sterilized at 134 °C before use. It ships in an autoclavable hard-shell case, which is also where the punch is stored between uses.
Also asked as Does the punch come sterile? · Sterile FUE punch
How is the Garry Fue Punch sterilized?
The Garry Fue Punch is sterilized by steam autoclave at 134 °C, after prompt rinsing and neutral-pH ultrasonic cleaning, following your facility's validated protocol. For lumened instruments such as a punch, a prevacuum cycle is generally the appropriate choice because it removes air actively so steam reaches the bore, as our autoclave cycle guide explains. For cycle parameters or any other method, ask us and we answer in writing.

Where can I find reprocessing instructions for the Garry Fue Punch?
Reprocessing guidance for the Garry Fue Punch is stated on each Garry Fue Punch product page and on the Fue Punch family page: rinse immediately after the session, clean ultrasonically in a neutral-pH detergent, clean the lumen by flow and steam-sterilize at 134 °C. If you need a detail that guidance does not cover, ask us and we answer in writing.

How do I clean a FUE punch after a session?
Rinse the Garry Fue Punch immediately after the session, flush the lumen with water before debris dries, then clean it ultrasonically in a neutral-pH detergent. Clean the lumen by flow rather than with wires or brushes, dry it completely and store the punch in its autoclavable case. Manual, ultrasonic and washer-disinfector cleaning workflows are supported, and saline or chlorine-based agents should be kept off the steel.

Is the Garry Fue Punch reusable or single-use?
The Garry Fue Punch is a reusable instrument, supplied non-sterile and intended for reprocessing between uses. Clean, rinse and dry it, steam-sterilize it at 134 °C, keep the cutting edge away from hard surfaces and replace the punch once the edge shows wear.
Also asked as Is the FUE punch disposable? · Can FUE punches be reused?
How many procedures does a Garry Fue Punch last, and when should it be replaced?
Garry does not publish a number of uses for the Garry Fue Punch: it is replaced once the edge shows wear, and how soon that happens depends on the donor tissue, the technique and the reprocessing. Inspect the edge before each use and withdraw any punch that shows wear, damage or corrosion. Normal wear of edges is not covered by the warranty, so disciplined point-of-use care and reprocessing help protect the edge.

Can a worn Garry Fue Punch be re-sharpened?
No, Garry does not re-sharpen or refurbish instruments, and a Garry Fue Punch whose edge is worn should be replaced. A punch modified, re-sharpened or repaired by anyone other than Garry falls outside the warranty.
Also asked as FUE punch sharpening service · Can I sharpen FUE punches?
What causes spots, stains or rust on FUE punches?
Spots on a FUE punch such as the Garry Fue Punch are often deposits from water quality or detergent residue, while chlorides from saline or chlorine-based agents can cause pitting corrosion. Rub the mark with a clean pencil eraser: if it lifts, it is a deposit and the process needs fixing; if pitting shows underneath, it is corrosion. Rinse saline and blood off at the point of use, final-rinse with demineralized water and dry completely; our guide on spots, stains and corrosion reads each stain type.

Comparisons
What is the difference between the Garry Fue Punch and the Long Hair Fue Punch?
The Garry Fue Punch is the standard FUE extraction line, with a serrated cutting tip in 25 sizes (Ø 0.7-0.9 mm, 2.5-5.0 mm), while the Long Hair Fue Punch is designed for no-shave excision with the hair shaft still in the lumen, in 3 sizes (Ø 0.8, 0.85 and 0.9 mm, 4.0 mm). The diameters overlap, both are crafted from Japanese Steel (Garry J-Steel) and both are inspected individually before release. See the Long Hair Fue Punch family.

Does a FUE machine replace the FUE punch?
No, a FUE machine does not replace the FUE punch: in motorized FUE the punch mounts in a powered handpiece that supplies rotation or oscillation, and grafts are still extracted with the punch. Punch diameter and working length are chosen the same way in either setup. Garry's own machine, the Garry Smart Fue System, is in its final stage of development, with a launch countdown to 2 November 2026.

Which FUE punch should I use for hair transplantation?
No single FUE punch, the Garry Fue Punch included, suits every case: the right punch is the smallest diameter that cleanly clears the graft in front of the surgeon, at a working length matched to the patient's follicle depth, in a geometry suited to the donor tissue. That is why the Garry Fue Punch is published in 25 sizes, Ø 0.7 to 0.9 mm in 5 working lengths, each with its own order code, with a serrated cutting tip and individual inspection before release. Our FUE punch sizes guide explains how to build a set of sizes.

How does the Garry Fue Punch compare with other FUE punch brands?
A fair way to compare the Garry Fue Punch with any other FUE punch is on checkable facts: who makes it and where, whether every unit is inspected or only sampled from a batch, whether you buy direct, whether each size has its own order code, and whether material, tip, packaging and warranty are stated. For Garry the answers are published: manufactured in Türkiye and supplied direct, every punch inspected individually, 25 sizes with 25 order codes, Japanese Steel (Garry J-Steel), a serrated tip, an autoclavable hard-shell case and a manufacturer warranty against defects in material and workmanship. Our guide 10 questions clinics should ask any instrument supplier turns this into a checklist.

Why are some FUE punches on online marketplaces cheaper?
Marketplace FUE punch listings often show a lower number than a manufacturer's quotation for a punch such as the Garry Fue Punch, so compare what the number includes before comparing the number. Check for a stated size with its own order code, a stated material, per-unit inspection rather than batch sampling, a warranty against defects in material and workmanship, and an identifiable manufacturer; Garry publishes each of these for the Garry Fue Punch. For reusable punches, cost per case over the service life is a more useful comparison than the unit price.
